3 of My Favorite Books… Have you Read These?
Earlier this year, I realized the importance of being more intentional about reading. However, I often struggle to find new, engaging, and insightful reads. Feeling overwhelmed by the search for new material often leaves me flipping on Netflix once again.
Then, a friend asked me for a book recommendation for her 12 in 12 book challenge. Curious, I inquired about the challenge. She contacted twelve different friends, requesting each to recommend one book to her. She shared that she was committed to reading one book every month for this year, completing twelve books in twelve months. I was inspired by the concept and ended up reaching out to twelve of my friends as well.
If you're unsure of what to read next, consider embracing this challenge yourself. While 12 books may seem daunting, you could ask three friends for recommendations and commit to reading those selections. Here are three books that were recommended to me this year, which I also recommend to you. While there are many great titles available, these particular ones held special meaning for me.
Book 1: The Heavenly Man by Brother Yun
The dramatic autobiography of one of China's dedicated, courageous, and intensely persecuted house church leaders. One of my favorite quotes from this book was “I had a deeper understanding that no matter what situation would come my way, I would be in the hands of the Lord, and he would rescue me.. ”. If you’d like to get it on Amazon, here’s the link.
Book 2: Miracle on Voodoo Mountain by Megan Boudreaux
The inspirational memoir of an accomplished and driven 24-year old who quit her job, sold everything, and moved to Haiti, by herself―all without a clear plan of action. God guided her every step as she moved blindly to a foreign land without knowing the language, the people, or the future. One of my favorite quotes from this book was “God reminds me the battle here on earth is full of tragedies, heartache, and brokenness. But it’s not our job to fight against this world. Jesus has overcome the world (John 16:33). Instead, my job is to spread the light.”. If you’d like to get it on Amazon, here’s the link.
Book 3:The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondō
Japanese cleaning consultant Marie Kondo takes tidying to a whole new level, promising that if you properly simplify and organize your home once, you’ll never have to do it again. One of my favorite quotes from this book was “But when we really delve into the reasons for why we can’t let something go, there are only two: an attachment to the past or a fear for the future.”. What are some of your favorite? I’d love to hear them — especially as I begin my list for next year. Write me back!
